Our Approach

Each consulting engagement is different depending on the needs of the client. In some cases, our projects are company-wide initiatives designed to improve overall functioning and performance. In other cases, the engagements are more specific and finite; focusing on things such as strategic planning, workflow and process design, launch planning, management training, capacity building, executive coaching, or improving the customer experience.

In all cases, our approach includes the clear identification of issues, a thorough analysis of root causes, the development of practical and implementable solutions, and the commitment to deliver sustainable outcomes. The following sampling is representative of our projects, and their results:

Program Development

For Calendar Club, a long-time client, Implementations helped to rebuild a retail operations program supporting over 100 independent contractors operating nearly 700 seasonal stores nationwide. We addressed issues of high turnover, low morale and stagnant sales through a comprehensive redesign of the program including recruitment, training, support and the policies governing the operator relationship.

“We have worked with Ross on numerous consulting projects since 1997. He has been instrumental in solving a wide range of management problems, and has helped us develop ways of working that have become part of the fabric of the company.”

Paul Hoffman, Chief Operating Officer

Capacity Building

A successful structural engineering firm, Siegel Associates, was generating more demand for their services than they could handle. Implementations helped them develop the systems and operating procedures to manage a higher volume of work, while also improving the quality and consistency of their customer service.

“One of our best business prospects was coincidentally a former client of Implementations. When I mentioned to them that we had been working with Ross on improving our own operation, it immediately gave them the confidence to award us their business.”

Steve Siegel, President

Productivity and Profitability

Ross worked with the president of Action Freight Services to address critical management and personnel issues that were limiting growth and profitability. Ross helped successfully implement strategic shifts and personnel changes that resulted in significantly increased profits.

“Implementations helped us make changes in our organization that allowed us to handle a higher volume of business, which led directly to increased income and profits.”

Buzz Gondran, President

Transition Management and Team Building

For Tivoli Systems, a division of IBM, Implementations helped integrate three divisions into a single new department. We worked with this group to identify and merge best practices to create a strong, cohesive new team, and helped them differentiate themselves in their highly visible new position.

“Ross helped us merge three independent groups into one cohesive team that is highly effective and accountable for the deployment and support of Tivoli products worldwide. We have realized significant value from the standards and procedures Ross worked with us to establish.”

Scott Berentsen, Manager of IT

For the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Ross facilitated a strategic planning offsite to develop a new approach to engaging volunteers and managing complex programs, such as their annual Run for the Cure event.

“Ross’ ideas and contributions to our planning session were instrumental in establishing a new course of direction for our organization.”

Mary Cheryl Dorwart, President

Operations Development

The partners of Payne Bouchier, a construction company, engaged Ross to help them strengthen their management skills to better address the challenges presented by rapid growth. Ross helped them design and implement procedures and operating systems for almost every aspect of their business. Today, the company is one of Boston’s premier high-end home builders.

“Ross helped us develop the necessary skills sets to gain control of our business and move it to the next level. Ross’ approach has become the model and standard for how we solve problems in our company. Many of the systems Ross developed are still in place more than 10 years later.”

Tom Payne, Managing Partner

Coaching and Presenting

At the University of Texas McCombs School of Business, Ross has been involved in the PLUS Program since it was founded in 2003. He has developed project guidelines, is a guest presenter on project management skills, and coaches student teams on project scope and strategy as they participate in “real world” consulting assignments with companies worldwide.

“Since 2003, Ross has been an integral part of our consulting project program. He works with me each semester to refine our approach, and he has coached over 150 student teams. Project leaders rely on him for advice throughout their projects, and routinely report that his input is invaluable in helping them define their projects, manage their teams, and deliver meaningful results to their clients.”

Deidra Graves Stephens, Ph.D., Director, Texas MBA+ Leadership Program

Process Design

The most recent project for long-time client Philips Healthcare was to redesign their Clinical Showcase Program, which contracts with hospitals around the country to serve as host sites for demonstrations of major medical equipment—a critical step in closing multi-million dollar sales. Ross led the initiative to create new program protocols, procedures, tools, and training for both the medical sites and the participating Philips personnel.

“Once again, Implementations helped us rebuild and revitalize one of our most important programs. Ross’ ability to assess a situation and develop appropriate solutions has been critical to our success.”

Laura Costello, Director of Marketing Operations

Board Development

For the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired, Implementations helped the Superintendent and Board of Directors redefine their roles and responsibilities to ensure greater effectiveness and better outcomes for the organization. Ross established new Board protocols that optimally positioned the Superintendent, and refocused Board members on higher level strategic and fiduciary initiatives.

“Ross helped us identify key issues and change long-held perspectives that were limiting the organization. More importantly, Ross worked with us in a way that engaged and motivated the group, and brought us together to achieve a common goal.”

Bill Daugherty, Superintendent
